It has been cold here (by TX standards anyway) the past couple of days. I thought the frost on the edges of the leaves of this bush looked cool (no pun intended).

January 28, 2009 Moving out

Is it wrong to be so excited to see a moving truck nextdoor? I just hope that we get really good neighbors this time. And I would be thrilled if the new neighbors have boys close in age to our boys.

January 26, 2009 Local company goes non-smoking

This is what you get when your company goes completely non-smoking...not outside the buildings, not in your car, nowhere on the property. People huddled on the public sidewalk in the foggy, misty rain having their smoke.

January 23, 2009 Crazy Weather

The weather was beautiful today so we made our way to the park after school.

January 22, 2009 Could it be???

This house went on the market mid 2008 and I'm so excited that it's this close to sold. See this house is next door to us and the people haven't been nice to us at all since just before we closed on our house. They had a permanent basketball goal cemented in the ground and it was over their property line...so on our property and we wouldn't have been able to close on our house unless it was moved. They didn't like that fact and blamed us for not being flexible and just signing a waiver. The title company and the builder both told us that we couldn't close unless it was moved, but the homeowners kept arguing with us that they were told by the title company and the builder that they could leave it. A few angry voicemails and e:mails (both via company phone and e:mail) later from the neighbor and they finally moved it. Dh and I met a couple a few weeks back that said they had made 2 offers on the house and they seemed really nice so we're hoping it's them...they also have 2 boys ages 10 and 12.

January 21, 2009 Evil cookies!

Today is the first official day of Girl Scout cookie sales here. Now we will see groups everywhere from Walgreens to the grocery store to Sam's Club selling them as you approach the store.

January 18, 2009 Thanksgiving in January

I picked up this oil-less turkey fryer during the week and we wanted to give it a try. The past couple of years we've deep fried our turkey for Thanksgiving and while it's by far the best tasting turkey I've ever had it is definitely costly and messy and a pain to clean up and dispose of the oil. So, we tried out the new gizmo today and the turkey was even better than the ones we've fried in peanut oil. Oh, and check out the crazy temps outside today.

January 17, 2009 My next project

These are the cabinets above the desk in the kitchen. They used to be organized and well...not so much anymore. So, I'm going to empty them and start over.

January 16, 2009 Day off of school

No school today so we met some friends at the bowling alley/arcade and had a blast!

January 15, 2009 My teeth are braceless!

After 26 months, they're finally off! The first picture was from this morning and the second from when I got home after getting them off. Now I just need to ask the dentist about the most cost effective way to whiten them. It feels really weird to actually feel my teeth.

Well not exactly, but Seth's class was learning about geometric prisms and they were building them out of straws. Pretty cool actually.

January 7, 2009 A little mending

E tells me tonight that his jacket has a hole in it that he can stick his thumb through. I figured it was a seam so no biggie. Well it wasn't the seam (I was still able to fix it) afterall. When I asked him how it happened he said "it must have been the metal"...ummm what metal? Guess it got caught on a fence at school.

January 6, 2009 Will they work?

I decided to give these green bags a try because I'm tired of throwing away produce that's gone bad in just a few days. I didn't put these bananas in the bag right when I bought them (because I forgot) but they still lasted longer than they ever have before. Perhaps they do work.

The morning we left, the gate on the fence wasn't looking to secure so dh did what he could before we made our way to the airport. We joked during vacation about whether or not the gate door would still be up when we got back. Well it was...but this section was just as you see it here. Guess it's time for a new fence.

January 1, 2009 Happy New Year!

This was our last day of vacation (boys playing in the hotel pool). We spent New Years Eve in Florida and flew back on New Years day.
